PCJ Challenge 1 - Floral

Welcome to the first challenge of 2012 here at PCJ! It's Lisa here and I hope you enjoyed the festive season and are having a super happy new year so far!

The challenge theme this week is Floral. Add flowers to your project, use floral patterned papers, make your own flowers. It's up to you. Remember, this is a paper craft blog so any project type is allowed as long as it's predominantly made out of paper.

Blogger is being a pain in the behind at the moment, so I apologise in advance if the DT are unable to leave comments this challenge.

Just wanted to stop by and share a card with you and remind you that we have a DT call on at the moment which you don't want to miss!!! So check out the post below for all the details.
I wanted to share this card with as many people as possible as I absolutely love how it turned out!! This was my first attempt at colouring pleats in a dress (thanks to the fantastic tutorial by Zoe from Make it Crafty).

And I thought the best way for Tilda to have the spotlight was to put her on a white card. The pleats aren't perfect but I think I did an ok job for my first attempt!! I will keep practicing!!!! If you'd like to know more about my card please head on over to my Blog.

PCJ DT Call

Hello everyone, Lisa here. I’d like to wish you all a very happy new year!
We are looking to add two or three new members to the PCJ Design Team. If you’re interested in joining a group of very talented, and very lovely ladies on the team, please read on.
You don't need to have had previous experience, or have a quadrillion followers of your blog to be considered for the DT. Even if you're relatively new to paper crafting and craft challenges, you can still apply as long as you have a blog of your own. We all had to start somewhere and this blog is to help us all along our paper crafting journey. Many of the current design team had no previous experience of being on a DT and have grown from strength the strength, so please don’t be put off from applying!

What will be expected of you?

This is a fortnightly challenge which starts every alternate Thursday at 0800 GMT, please take into account your availability to take part in at least 3 out of 4 challenges.
Follow the set challenge theme and publish a blog post each Challenge Thursday on your own blog - you can combine this with other craft challenges if you want to. We're not in competition with any other challenge blog.
Comment on your allocated share of the entries and assist with picking the top 3 when required.
Participate in the PCJ yahoo group and DT blog.
Be able to work with digital images (stamps, clip art, digi papers etc)

What you will receive in return

Increased exposure to your own papercraft projects and blog.
Although you won't be paid, you will get to work with any sponsored products.
Have lots of fun and meet new people

Wow 4 days into 2012 already!!! Had hoped to be back here sooner but have hardly been home this year!! Teeheehee. In fact I am only home for 5 days then off on holidays for a week!! I can't wait!! So I hope that you all had a fabulous New Years Eve and saw in the new Year with friends or family. Or enjoyed your sleep if you dont really celebrate and went to bed early!!
So Ive popped in today to share another card with you while the DT are still resting up!! :)
I had to make a card for a friend whose birthday is in three days and as always Ive made the card in time but of course it has to make its way over to the UK so wont arrive in time for his birthday!! I really do try but failed miserably last year!! Hopefully I can improve from here on, in!!
So my card...

I decided to use Cool Edwin, he just doesn't get coloured often enough!!

Hello everyone, hope you survived Christmas and preparing for the New Year!! We are home and away quite a bit over the next few weeks but looking forward to catching up with friends and hopefully having a fun relaxing time! So while I'm home for a couple of days I thought I'd just pop in and share a card with you while the rest of the DT are taking a break!!!

I made this card as my sister has a friend who recently had a baby!! I actually need to get a few of these cards done for my friends who are bringing in the new year with beautiful new babies!!

How long have you been crafting?

I have been crafting for just under 3 years now. My mother in law handmade the wedding invites when I got married, she is fab, got all 500 made within a month! And with lots of bling, right up my street so I had to have a go, MIL bought me my first tool: a heat gun (which is still going strong) and the rest is history!

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you bring to keep on crafting?

Stamps, cards and colouring medium

What gets your creative juices flowing?

It depends, sometimes it’s a colour combo, a stamp or design paper

Do you whistle while you work?

Wouldn’t know how to!

What is your favourite music to listen to while crafting away?

Disney channel, not by choice but it keeps my 8 months old entertained so that’s good.

What is your absolute most favourite product to work with?

Bling! Though it’s a tough choice as I am a paper lover and hate to use my lovely papers!!

PCJ Challenge 16–Photo Inspiration

Hi everyone, it’s Lisa here. I do hope you’re enjoying the school holidays, whatever you’re up to.

This week we have a photo inspiration challenge for you and you have two weeks to link up your creations – plenty of time to conjure up some magic.

Here’s the photo. I took this back in 2009 on my honeymoon in Las Vegas. The photo is of the Chihuly Glass “Fiori di Como” ceiling in the lobby of the Bellagio. Gorgeous place, I highly recommend it.

You might be inspired by the flowers, the colours, the shapes… whatever springs to mind when you see this photo.

INTRODUCING ALETHEA

How long have you been crafting?

I have been cross stitching for as long as I can remember but took up card making about 5 years ago.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you bring to keep on crafting?

I would take my tria markers, digi images and my scissors. ( I love cutting images out)

What gets your creative juices flowing?

If I see something I really want to recreate or an image that I just can’t wait to colour or if I just suddenly get an idea in my head!!!

What is your absolute most favourite product to work with?

Anything that sparkles – kindyglitz, glitter pens, smooch, smooch spritz! I have to add sparkle somewhere on every card.

Where do your creative messes flow?

I unfortunately don’t have a craft room so I have a desk and some drawers with all my craft items in them and I just get out all my supplies of a night once the boys are in bed and create at my dinner table!

Share a piece of work that you are proudest of-it can be anything new or old :)

This is one of my most recent creations but I was so happy with the way it turned out! It would have to be one of the best things that I have made and am definitely proud of how well it turned out!

Are you a messy crafter or tidy?

Definitely a messy crafter.It usually gets to the point of not being able to find something I saw 5 mins ago!!

Do you plan out your projects before starting or make it up as you go along?

I definitely do not plan out anything!! I may have some sort of idea in my head of what I would like to use on a card like an image or paper but it all just comes together as I start playing!!

Favourite online resource for inspiration.

If I am ever stuck to create something I head to Feline Playful to see what challenges or sketches are around that I can get some inspiration from. Or I check out my favourite blogs which there are a lot of!!

Top tips for crafters old and new.

If you are embossing something on your project and you haven’t used enough versamark for it the embossing powder to stick properly, then brush off the powder, rub your embossing buddy all over it to get rid of the sticky and then re-ink and re-emboss. Works everytime!!

What was the first design team you were a part of?

This is my first Design Team position and I just love it!!! Thanks Lisa fot this wonderful opportunity!

messy, perfection, adventurous

by the amount of embellishments on it!! I always have to add a flowers or a button or bling!!

Take a night off and just Sit on the couch and watch a movie....

I have been crafting for 3 Years now. And becoming more obsessive by the day!!

Only 3! Scissors, scor tape, and DP!

· What gets your creative juices flowing?

Waking up in the morning! Seriously. I have no problem with mojo, but I think sometimes we all get in a rut. If that happens the blog world is my inspiration. Seeing other people’s gorgeous creations, something begins to stir inside.....

· Do you whistle while you work?

Never.

· What is your favourite music to listen to while crafting away?

Depends on what mood I’m in. But in general I have always liked sad soul wrenching music.

Well, this is very personal, but I have to say this layout of my first son who was still born. This is one of my biggest treasures.

I have to start of with a tidy work area. Somewhere in between things are all over the place, and I quickly organise again. Right now, I am crafting in our kitchen to be, so space is a problem. That makes tidy crafting a problem. WHEN my craft room is finished, I will go back to being a tidy crafter!

I’ve actually tried planning my projects before hand. Sadly it never worked out. So no, I never plan a project!

Ooohhh only 3 well then it would have to be stamps card and promarkers I think

I don’t know sometimes it’s colour or pictures and other times something will just pop in my head (it hurts when that happens)lol

No it hurts my ears

ahh now this is easy and anyone who knows me will know the answer anything by Darren Hayes or Adam Ant

My craft studio it’s my work table so to speak

you really wouldn’t believe me if I told you but I have the smallest table ever and rest all my stuff on my storage boxes

This really depends on what I am doing if it’s for a DT card then 9 times out of 10 you have a theme and sometimes an image to use, if it’s a commissioned card then I ask about the person it’s for i.e what do they like or fav colour so I go with that but then I will sometimes see an image and think I can make a card with that and just see what happens

When using foam pads to stick down an image use a glue stick on them in case you pop it down in the wrong place and if you have any acetate or velum that won’t go through your printer attach it to a thin piece of card then try it, it works for me

· What was the first design team you were a part of? Crafty card makers was the first to ask me to join in March this year so I am relatively new to DT stuff

· Describe your crafting style in 3 words

very very chaotic

INTRODUCING HILDE!

How long have you been crafting?
As long as I can remember really, my Mother used to sew, knit and crochet, so I just started from there.

What gets your creative juices flowing?
Pretty things, and shiny things, lol, I love glitzy shiny pretty things, that is all it takes....

Are you a messy crafter or tidy?
Definitely messy, even though I like things tidy, but if my desk is too neat, I can't create, I am most creative with a mess everywhere.

Do you plan out your projects before starting or make it up as you go along?
Make it up as I go along. Every time I tried to pre plain something it never turns out. I get a vague idea in my head and off I go, but it never really turns out the way I thought it would, but that how it works for me.

Which craft tool would make you cry if it broke?
My Sizzix Big Shot/Big kick. I am on my second one now, i wore out the first one, it literally fell to pieces.

What is/are your Must buy craft items.
Well for me it has been all the different dies you can now get. Loving the marianne creatables dies, nellie snellen, tim holtz dies. Just enjoy using them on my projects.

Tips for crafters new and old.
Just be yourself , use the web and blog for inspiration, but be you. Everyone has their own style. We all end up with soo much equipment, and really cardmaking is not hard. if you are starting out, just stick to CAS cards and work from there.

PCJ Monday Meet & Greet

INTRODUCING CINDY!

· How long have you been crafting?

I have been crafting since I was born! I remember being very young and my grandmother teaching me to crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch and quilt. Later I learned to draw and paint. One of my favourite birthday presents was a professional watercolour paint set! I was introduced to scrapbooking way back in 1993 when a co-worker showed me her Creative Memories album. Of course I fell in love with it and the rest is history!

· If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you bring to keep on crafting?

This one is a toughie. I would have to say I would bring my computer, printer and scissors! I adore Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator so I would use these programs to create digital images, color and print them then create cards and scrapbook pages with them.

· What gets your creative juices flowing?

It doesn’t take much! Sometimes just seeing certain colors together have me off and running. I follow blogs and participate in challenges and really love looking at other peoples’ creations.

· Do you whistle while you work?

Whistling has never been my thing!

· What is your favourite music to listen to while crafting away?

I don’t listen to music while I craft. I listen to audible books. Ever since I was a kid I devoured every book and magazine I could get my hands on. However, with a full-time job, raising two kids, maintaining a household and crafting, there wasn’t any time to read. I discovered books on tape many years ago and now thanks to Audible.com, iTunes and my iTouch I can “read” and drive, craft, wash dishes, walk, etc.

· What is your absolute most favourite product to work with?

I love, love, love Tim Holtz’s products. His style is really creative and funky!

· Where do your creative messes flow?

Who really needs a formal dining room anyway? Several years ago we turned our unused formal dining room into a scrapbook room. My dear husband installed cupboards, a counter top and shelves. Now that I work from home we have had to modify the scrapbook room to double as an office.

· Share a piece of work that you are proudest of-it can be anything new or old :)

Of course it would have to be a Tim Holtz project. I took a class from him last year and we made these cute curio cabinets. Of course mine had to be in color and not the vintage look he was going for, but I liked it!

· Are you a messy crafter or tidy?

I am an incredibly messy crafter, but after I finish a project I have to tidy up. I can’t stand looking at clutter so everything must be neat and tidy at the beginning and the end of a project. As you can see from the photo of my scrapbook room above, I was obviously in the middle of a project when the photo was taken!

· Do you plan out your projects before starting or make it up as you go along?

Try as I might, I am just not organized enough to plan my projects before starting. I do start with an idea, a sketch or a color palette and then just let the project morph into the final creation.

· Describe your crafting style in 3 words

Trendy, Colorful, and Clean. My projects are always full of color with lots of embellishments but the base of the project must have clean straight lines. I also cannot throw something on just for the sake of it.

· Complete this sentence:

You will know which project is mine by…. the project is colored within an inch of its life. I have not met a color I haven’t liked. As I said above, my projects are always full of bright, vibrant colors.

· What is/are your “Must buy” craft item(s)

I can’t get enough epoxy brads – the problem is I hoard them and don’t use them!

· What do you do when your Mojo takes a nosedive?

I hit the internet and explore blogs, galleries, and on-line stores.

· My favourite online craft shop(s)

All About My Obsession:

How long have you been crafting?
Ever since I can remember I have always been doing some sort of craft. I give credit to a dear friend of the family (who was my babysitter for some time) who introduced me to this amazing hobby. About 6 years ago, when I new that hubby was going to be the one and only for me-I started scrapbooking. I had saved everything-movie tickets, receipts, etc... from the very beginning because I just knew that this love was something special I wanted to remember forever . Here is the 6yo me with my hand-crafted indian head piece lol:If you were stranded on a deserted island,
what 3 things would you bring to keep on crafting?
A Polaroid camera, an unlimited supply of film and my hubby-I would have to improvise and use mother nature for adhesive, techniques and embellishments!

What gets your creative juices flowing?

My pictures-which of course include all of my favourite people, places & things in my life-oh and pups too! I take pictures of anything and everything!

Do you whistle while you work?
I most certainly do! I love to listen to things I can sing along to-by no means can I hold a note to save my life, however, I like to think so. Some of the things on my playlist include Adele, Sia and Mumford & Sons. Here is Adele’s Hometown Glory for you to take a listen:

What is your absolute most favourite product to work with?
I absolutely love to work with Kraft Cardstock! I just love the look and it’s so easy to work with almost any type of project!

Where do your creative messes flow?
I was in the bedroom and decided to convert that to my
Office/Study Corner, with classes coming up again I had to separate it all.
Now I craft in the dining room area-I have this ancient china cab’t from
my parents very first dinette set that hides all my goodies. The
bookcase is from Ikea and I have a bunch of stuffies organized in
my thrift shop baskets-can’t go wrong with thrift shopping!

It's not much, but it does the job and I love it!

I had a full house! 25 "student crafters" and it was definitely a success!

Are you a messy crafter or tidy?
I’m a messy crafter and then I tidy up after each creation and/ or technique
depending what I am up to-you never know what a mess some things can be lol.

Do you plan out your projects before starting or make it up as you go along?
I tend to do both. Sometimes when I have my own idea,
I grab a quick sketch or template to play around with displaying my pics on a LO.

Favourite craft manufacturer:
Anything by Crate Paper, Nikki Sivils, Basic Grey & Cosmo Cricket,
I honestly cannot pick just one!!!!!

Favourite online resource for inspiration:
I always find inspiration in the people I am following.
There is so much talent out there that inspires me daily-even when I can’t craft, I always peek!
